Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is a powerful and transformative force in medicine, offering unprecedented capabilities in diagnostics, drug discovery, and patient care. However, this transformation is not without significant challenges. The AI-driven paradigm introduces complex ethical and systemic risks, including privacy vulnerabilities amplified by the perpetuation of health inequities through algorithmic bias, and the erosion of trust and professional competence due to opaque "black box" systems. The current regulatory and governance landscape in Europe is in a state of flux, attempting to manage a fast-moving technology with traditional frameworks not designed for its iterative nature. The authors, in this work, aim to define an ethical and legal common framework to support the ethical application of AI in the field of medicine.
